Kinetic Equine Analysis is owned by Marlene and Stace Moss. We have competed in Competitive Trail and Endurance for 4 years. Distance riding sports very quickly teach you that caring about your horse is paramount, much more than just loving them and hoping to see them enjoy the sport as well.
Marlene’s first competitive horse was definitely not a stoic and very strongly indicated when she did not like a saddle. Venesza was a great teacher – with some stoics you end up losing points for sore backs or seeing white hairs and muscle loss first. She chose to bite me to get her point across – and it worked!
We attended saddle fitting clinics and learned a lot – about saddle fitting and how some of the really impressive clinicians communicate.
Eventually we found a great saddle solution and were determined to make that saddle more easily available in the US. It was a saddle made in England – Free’n’Easy. We added this to the product line of Marlene’s previous company, Moss Rock Endurance. The success was wonderful – one can’t help but enjoy every day when customers are gushing over a product that changes both their and their horses lives.
That saddle was actually a great training tool in itself. With a rigid tree saddle you have to take it or leave it. With an adjustable saddle like the Free’n’Easy, you can look at fit in great detail (and frequently) and try minute adjustments until you get the result you want. This gave us some really in-depth training on how to look at those details and the impetus to focus on them, rather than just move on to the next saddle.
We moved into the mountains of Colorado in 2003 and found it was going to be very difficult to continue running Moss Rock Endurance and in the long run, we really wanted to increase our riding time and actually become competitive in endurance. So Moss Rock Endurance was sold to another Competitive Trail and Endurance competitor.
But ultimately the business bug bit again. Stace began developing plans for a pressure scan system that would work better than those we’d seen. Marlene missed working with people and helping them and their horses. So Kinetic Equine Analysis was born!
We have been involved with saddle fitting clinics in VA, WA, IL, CO and NM. Check out the Saddle Fitting Sessions to learn more about the information we provide and what we try to teach in either clinics or private session.
We also have plans to further our education as we go – studying horses in our saddle fitting sessions and clinics, working toward a Certification in Saddle Fitting, and attending courses on Anatomy and Conformation. Hopefully this will be an ongoing story!
