You didn`t think there was anything new in reins? Here is a nifty little invention that allows you to have a double set of reins without the bulk and complication of constantly holding both sets.
These are great for training a horse to go bitless, but still wanting the reassurance of a bit during the transition. They work great going the other way as well. I have a mustang mare that I started in a sidepull but decided she would be safer with a bit. I didn`t want to immediately start cranking on the bit - this way I could use the sidepull as necessary and start using the bit in controlled situations, plus let her get used to the bit while I gave her cues she understool.
I recently tried a TTEAM bit as on paper, it seemed like the perfect bit for one of my endurance horses. She likes a port, responds well to leverage and pretty much ignores anything else. But I had some difficulties - I couldn`t manage double reins on the trail, she wouldn`t steer with leverage contact only and wouldn`t round or slow down with the snaffle rein alone. The Combination Reins would make a great package with the TTEAM bit!
