This is defintely not a tool for the average horse owner! The systems are very expensive and there are only a few available in the country. The systems do have limitations that the user must understand in order to properly interpret the results.
Basically, there is a pad with electronic pressure sensors that is placed between the saddle and the horse. The pressure readings are measured and sent back to a computer. There are some versions available with the ability to store data for download so that small amounts of movement can be viewed.
This is one product that Kinetic Equine Analysis is looking at improving. Both from a cost and a usability perspective. We`re just getting started, so it will take some time, but we are hoping to create a system that gives much more valuable data, plus is cheap enough to be affordable by most chiropractors, saddle fitting experts or maybe even horse clubs. Check back for more info!
The scan at the right shows the pressure profile of a used County dressage saddle on a somewhat wide Polish Arab mare. The scan shows uneven rider weight plus bridging on one side. After the rider`s weight is re-centered, then scan could be used to determine if reflocking could help the fit.
