There are several ways to meet with us for a saddle fitting analysis. We attend several Competitive Trail and Endurance events in the Rocky Mountain area. If you can find us with some free time, just holler and we’ll be glad to see if we can fit in an appointment or at least chat with you.
If you live within reasonable driving distance from Colorado Springs, you can schedule a private session. Cost is $50 plus trip fees and we will look at as many horses and saddles as time allows. If your drive requires an overnight stay, that will need to be handled separately. Use of the Port Lewis Impression Pad is $25. Trip fees are $15 within 20 miles, $25 within 40 miles and $0.50/mile beyond that. (Starting point is Florence, CO, but depending upon your flexibility we can combine trips to reduce trip fees and I am in Colorado Springs often.)
For those further away, and with a number of friends willing to put something more formal together, we can schedule a Saddle Fitting Clinic. Cost is $65/horse or $50/horse at 8+, and includes an Impression Pad test. Minimum of 6 horses depending upon flight expenses. Cost for observers is $15, but the host can charge up to $25 to cover costs of organizing the event. Host would receive a free fitting. Clinics can be scheduled for 1 or 2 days – max of 12 horses per day.
I also welcome people to come to our boarding facility between Pueblo and Canon City, CO. We have room for trailers and stalls with runs for your horses. Turn it into a vacation - there is a lot to see and do here! Overnight board for your horses is $10 and you can hook up your LQ trailer for $15 per night. We will also be happy to direct or lead you to some really nice trails in the area as well as other local attractions. You can`t beat this deal for the amount of time we can spend talking about saddle fitting and other related topics. For more information about our property, visit Los Pinos Equestrian Center. We also have an indoor in case of inclement weather.
Details of our Saddle Fitting Sessions:
- Discuss general saddle fitting issues
- Focus on conformation points of the horse that impact saddle fit and stability
- List the typical points of saddle fitting with a focus on those points when the horse is in motion
- What to look for in general for a well fitting saddle
- What things can be done to fix an existing problem
- Discuss products and methods of testing saddle fit
- If there is interest, discuss how and why the Free’n’Easy saddles were designed and how they address the points above
- With each horse, check fit of existing saddles using visual and/or Impression Pad, make any adjustments possible or fit with a Free’n’Easy saddle and send the owner out for a ride
- We will provide literature on the discussions for later reading, contact information for any products participants may want for future use, plus contact information for ourselves for future phone or email consultations (which are free up to a point).
- We provide a written summary of our discussion for each horse with observations about each saddle, conformation, movement and recommendations.
- As needed, or as interest is indicated, we will also discuss hoof care, general conformation and exercises that may help your horse be more comfortable and move more comfortably for the rider.
- Private sessions usually take a minimum of 2 hours, but have taken over 4 hours in many cases, so you will get your money`s worth!
