The inserts for The Kinetic Pad can be customized to the shape of a pocket pad that you may already have or be ordered in a standard shape.

The Kinetic Pad inserts are laminated layers of leather (to provide support and conformation to the shape of the saddle), high density polyethylene (to distribute weight and reduce pressure points) and Poron®, a breathable open cell Performance Urethane (to absorb shock and shape changes through the motion of the horse.) The Poron® layer is available in 2 thicknesses - 1/4" and 1/2". See the product information for foam alone for performance information.

The Kinetic Pad is shaped similar to the profile of the horse to distribute weight over as much as the area of the horse that is capable of supporting rider weight as possible as well as being flexible and indiscernible under the riders leg. It is about 22" for English saddles and 24" for Western. The inserts can be customized for free with a sufficient tracing or description.

The thickness of the insert, along with a well designed shell/pad will help keep a treeless or possibly a too wide gullet off of the horses spine*. The large contact area will increase side to side stability as well as spread pressure from stirrup and girth rigging.

The forward part of the insert should sit over the back point of the scapula - while the saddle will sit in it`s normal position behind the scapula. This will help free up the shoulder so that it does not run into the tree. It is also possible to laminate additional layers of leather on the top of the insert to create a stop for the saddle - preventing the saddle from going forward on the pad (or the pad slipping beneath the saddle.)

The price of the inserts is $120, including most custom shapes. We do reserve the right to charge extra for unusually large shapes (greater than 25" long or 10" wide.)

* As with any pad and saddle it is important to look at the entire fitting picture, especially after any changes are made. Don`t fix one issue without rechecking all other aspects of saddle fit - see the Saddle Fitting Info link on this site or other saddle fitting websites or books for details.
